What I Know

That there is compassion in the world.

That if we are of a mind to help, there is no-one - but ourselves - to stop us from doing so.

That a kind word may grow legs - may stride further and lend a shoulder in ways we would never expect.

That blessings - in disguise - happen a lot.

That money is easy to spend but contentment not readily bought.

That one door leads to another.

That the room, just through the wall, is closer than we know.

That life is short. That actions, once executed, can never be undone.

That wishes seldom come true on their own. That will and perseverance help a hell of a lot.

That we cannot do it all. That on a daily basis we achieve far more than we allow ourselves credit for.

That sometimes the short-cut is the right way home.

That children love. That it would take a lot for this fundamental fact of nature to go wrong. That cross words or a frayed temper will not result in the loss of that for anyone reading this blog.

That dreams, left ignored, will ultimately become the ghosts that haunt.

That for better or worse, luck - one day - changes for us all.

That things worth doing - are worth little till we've made a start.

That it is easy to forget the world beyond our own four walls. That storms in a teacup are magnified nowhere more effectively than in the home.

That loved ones can be lost. That babies can be lost. That some amongst us face each new day with a gaping black hole. That however much we wish we could - we can do nothing to stop that from being so. That some events entirely eclipse the ability to come to terms.

That time is a healer but not a magic wand.

That - despite this - life goes on.

That precious memories will never be lost. That the past is set in stone and stone withstands the worst of violent storms.

That we need not live close. That laughter, tears and the best of friendships can, and do, miles apart occur.

That there is more in heaven and earth than any of us know.

That we are never, actually, alone.

That love - like it or not - is all around.

  3. Beautiful post and I love the bit about kind words growing legs! And agree very much with 'That wishes seldom come true on their own. That will and perseverance help a hell of a lot.' - almost as if I could hear my mum talking (this is basically a mantra she hammered into my head a long time ago!) x
